Welcome!

Physical Training is an important part in being in ROTC can you meet the standards

Anyone interested in joining the ROTC must take the Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT). Consisting of a series of push-ups, sit-ups, and a 2-mile run, the APFT is meant to measure how well a potential soldier can move his or her body. It is also used as a standard measure of overall fitness.

Height/Weight Standards

  • The Army ROTC uses a standard chart of acceptable height/weight ratios. See the resources section for the standards. Your weight must be below the maximum listed for the height. See standards
  • Push-ups

  • The first part of the APFT is to do as many push-ups as you can in two minutes. The minimum standard for a male between 17 to 21 is 42. A female must do at least 19. (See standards for all events)
  • Sit-ups

  • The next part of the APFT is a two-minute sit-up test. The minimum for a male or female between 17 and 21 is 53 sit-ups.
  • Run

  • The next section of the APFT is a 2-mile run that measures cardiorespiratory and lower body muscle performance. The maximum time for a 17- to 21-year-old male is 15:54. For a female of the same age, the maximum time allowed is 18:54.
  • Scoring

  • The APFT standard for ROTC is a minimum 180 points overall (60 per event). To see the standards for your sex and age, check the resources section below.
